Breaking Down Days 4 & 5 of Free Agency

Here are the final group of signings for the first week of free agency.

-

Arik Armstead - Jacksonville Jaguars

Contract: 3yr/$51M

After spending 9 seasons with the 49ers, San Francisco released Armstead and he will now be a key player on Jacksonville’s defensive line. In 2023, Armstead recorded 5 sacks and 13 quarterback hits.

This contract includes an average annual value of $17M making Armstead the 11th highest-paid defensive end in the league.

Joe Mixon - Houston Texans

Contract: 3yr/$27M

Houston continues to upgrade their roster. Soon after trading for Mixon from Cincinnati, the Texans lock him down for another 3 years. Mixon will replace Singletary who signed with the Giants this off-season. It will now be Joe Mixon and Dameon Pierce in the backfield in Houston. Great combo.

This contract includes $13M guaranteed and an average annual salary of $9M making Mixon the 7th highest paid running back in the league.

Curtis Samuel - Buffalo Bills

Contract: 3yr/$24M

Samuel should pair nice with Diggs assuming Buffalo doesn’t move on from their star receiver. Samuel will reunite with former Carolina offensive coordinator Joe Brady who is now the OC in Buffalo.

This contract has a maximum value of $30M which can be earned through certain bonuses. This deal also includes a $6.9M signing bonus and an average annual salary of $8M. In 2024, Samuel will earn a P5 salary (base salary) of $1.21M and carry a cap hit of $3.98M.

A.J. Dillon - Green Bay Packers

Contract: 1yr/$2.74M

Instead of Aaron Jones, Dillon will now be backing up Josh Jacobs in Green Bay. The power back was able to return to the Packers on a cheap 1-year deal.

This contract includes a $167.5K signing bonus and $2.74M guaranteed.

Marquise Brown - Kansas City Chiefs

Contract: 1yr/$7M

This is a great steal for the Chiefs as they add a talented receiver in Brown to a thin wide receiver room. Brown hasn’t been as productive in Arizona as he once was in Baltimore, however part of that had to do with Kyler Murray not being healthy. He’ll look to bolster an already talented Chiefs offense with Mahomes, Kelce, Rice, and Pacheco.

Tyron Smith - New York Jets

Contract: 1yr/$6.5M

Smith is an 8-time pro bowler and one of the best left tackles in the NFL in the last decade. However, there are age and injury concerns with the veteran. He’ll now be Aaron Rodgers's left tackle as the Jets continue to bolster their offensive line.

Devin White - Philadelphia Eagles

Contract: 1yr/$7.5M

White will be part of a re-tooled Eagles defense this upcoming season. White hasn’t been as productive of a player since his 2020 season but hopes to revive his career in Vic Fangio’s defense.
